From our farm to your table

Milk from our Red Poll cows

Our dairy started with just four Red Poll heifers, and it's grown into something we're really proud of.

We milk our cows just once a day, with their calves staying alongside them. They're fed on grass and forage grown on the farm, and we keep things as simple and natural as we can.

We pasteurise and bottle our milk here at Pentrefelin, giving us control over the whole process, from the field right through to the bottle.

Proper yogurt, made with out milk

One of the things I've always wanted to do is make more from the milk we produce rather than simply selling it on.

Our naturally set yogurt is made in small batches using milk from our own Red Poll cows. It's thick, creamy and made without unnecessary fuss.

It's another way we're trying to make the most of what we produce here at Pentrefelin, while giving our customers something a little different.

Award winning cheese made with Pentrefelin milk

We've been working with a local cheesemaker to turn some of our milk into cheese, and it's been exciting to see what can be made from our Red Poll herd.

It's something we're keen to develop further as the dairy grows.

For us, it's about working with skilled local producers, making good use of our milk and building a range of products that we're genuinely proud to put our name to.

Our Red Poll cattle produce more than just milk. Being a traditional dual-purpose breed, they also produce excellent beef.

We rear and finish our cattle entirely on grass and forage, including lucerne grown here on the farm. Our beef is sold directly through the farm shop and in beef boxes, as well as to a handful of local restaurants and cafés.

It's an important part of making the whole farming system work, producing good food while making the most of the cattle and land we already have.

Pasture-Raised Pork

We've recently introduced pigs to Pentrefelin, and just like everything else on the farm, they have a job to do.

At the end of the growing season, we move them into parts of the market garden where they eat leftover vegetables and root through the ground, helping prepare it for the following year's crops.

It's a practical way of reducing waste, cycling nutrients back into the soil and producing another source of food and income from the farm.

Seasonal Vegetables

Our market garden has become an important part of what we do at Pentrefelin, and it's very much a family effort.

Together, we grow a wide range of seasonal vegetables here on the farm, using compost-based growing methods and working with the seasons rather than against them.

Everything we grow is sold directly through our farm shop, so the vegetables on our shelves have often been picked just a few metres away.

We're continuing to develop the market garden, growing more of our own food and finding ways to make the different parts of the farm work together. From the cattle providing manure for compost to the pigs clearing the ground after harvest, it's all part of the bigger picture.

The Pentrefelin Shop

Our little farm shop has come a long way since we first started selling milk from a converted horse trailer.

Today, it's where we sell our own milk, yogurt, grass-fed beef and seasonal vegetables, alongside bread, pastries and other food from local producers we enjoy working with.

The range changes with the seasons and what's available on the farm. We want it to be somewhere local people can buy good food, know where it comes from and feel connected to the farms and people producing it.
